Chapter 7

Getting Inside and Outside Help

The term “the Universe” can often seem lofty and somehow distant to us everyday folks down here on the Earth. When we think of the Universe, we imagine the darkness of space with stars, moons, planets, and an occasional meteor. We envision the science fiction movies of our youth and not a deity, a tremendous energy force, working for our greater good. We must adjust our thinking and accept that there are other available sources within our Universe waiting to assist us in manifesting our desires.

The Universe, as we interpret it, encompasses all energies that exist, period—all of them, those existing in physical form and those existing in spirit form. We can see some energies with our physical eyes, since they consist of matter. But there are many energies we cannot see that are ready to assist us in making the quality of our lives the best it can be.

The celestial energies I’m speaking of are not to be feared. They are loving spirits dedicated to helping us achieve all that we

desire. Scientists tell us that energy doesn’t die, it is constant. It exists simultaneously with us on another plane of reality that we cannot necessarily see, and that plane can interact with us. Spiritually, we know that this interaction can take place by focusing the mind. Energy is generated by thoughts, which can alter physical reality. The metaphysical perspective teaches that this unseen energy is essentially a thought form created within the human psyche. This energy is part of us, generated by us, and a function of the source we call God. The idea that there are benevolent forces that exist to provide human beings with comfort, help, guidance, support, and protection is not a new one. Most of the Earth’s major religions believe that the soul lives on after physical death, and that we can receive guidance from this realm. Many religious traditions recognize saints, angels, and sacred spirits, such as the Holy Ghost.

For example, there are many accounts in the Bible that speak of angelic visitations. Angels are said to have appeared to the Virgin Mary, her mother, and countless others. Angels have played a tremendous role in the belief system of Christianity, but these communications appear to be reserved for “special” people, those with a distinct mission from God. But, in truth, we are all on a sacred mission from God. Our lives all have meaning, and we were born for a reason—to serve God and our fellow man. It follows, then, that if God exists within us, all around us, and in all things, that we can have direct access to It. If we can access God, surely we can access Its creations that exist as spirits. Not only do these energies exist, but anyone can communicate with them.
